ART IS PERSONAL – PERSONAL TO ONLY YOU!
Collectors would argue that you should only buy art that you truly love – whether it matches your interior or not – because you’re dealing with a long-term investment asset. Others look at art simply as a decorative accessory and they are happy to pick pieces that complement and highlight an existing interior design scheme.
IS IT A CHAIR OR IS THE PAINTED CHAIR ART?
Not all artwork is hung on the wall. Pieces of furniture can be works of art in their own right. It is essential to put Art as the hero in the room. Put it to good use. You must always ensure that the Art is centre stage and doesn’t disappear into the background of the painted walls, but at the same time it isn’t that elephant in the room that draws too much attention to itself. Art should make a statement not a distraction.
DON’T FRAME ME, I DIDN’T DO IT!
The general rule of thumb is that frames should be the support act not the main attraction. You can even use just the frame with no insert as its own art piece. Get creative. The wrong frame can ruin the picture inside and make it disappear, whereas the right frame is just as important as the piece of art itself. There are so many frames to choose from that if you are not sure, speak to your local framer for advice.
WHERE TO PLACE YOUR ART
Art can be used effectively in any room including the laundry. You need to decide on ART FREE spaces first. Choose the wall or walls that you are going to use as the focal point for your Art. For smaller spaces like the bathroom or a powder room the right oversize piece can work here too!

HOW TO GROUP ART/GALLERY WALLS:
measure available wall space lay out on floor first keep spacing consistent.
groupings can be 2 or more pieces.
Always take into consideration the size and shape. We can create grouped art using different pieces with the same frame colour or theme like all blue photos in a black frame or all black and white. So follow the rule similar in the group i.e. colour of art or photos, frames & matting, subject matter
The best place for family photos is a gallery wall. Remember the rule less is best! Look on Pinterest for ideas for the best layout for grouping for a gallery wall. And most important measure, measure, measure. Nothing looks worse than a gallery wall that is all higglety pigglety, unless that was the look you were going for.
For all groupings aim to create balance and symmetry.
Or you could use a combination of smaller pieces to create the shape you need.

WHERE TO HANG ART
The rule of thumb here is hang your picture at eye level; this means the centre of the picture should hang 56 to 60 inches (140-150cm) from the floor. Always treat a grouping of pictures as one piece, so the centre of the entire grouping should hang 56 to 60 inches (140-150cm)from the floor.
HOW TO SHOP FOR ART:
Its best to shop by colour, size, orientation, and the subject matter. It’s a great idea to take the colour and textures from all aspects of your room.
You should mix & match the price points.
e.g. use lower priced art in places like laundry rooms & kids rooms.
So you don’t get bored, it a great idea if you have the storage space to rotate your art seasonally. If you are super organised you could even put up Christmas or Easter Art.
Try to avoid awkward subject matters, that may be personal to you and no one else. These we recommend stay in your private space, like a bedroom or personal study/library. The type of Art we need is like wedding portraits or nudes, or odd mismatched subjects.
Use art as a starting point for designing your space. It will help with what you then select for paint, accessories, window treatments, bedding from your art choice.
